Statement on Election Results

For months all six candidates for Monterey Park City Council campaigned to earn your support.

Tonight the voters had their say. Tonight we came up short.

I want to congratulate Councilmembers Chan and Liang on their victories tonight.

I want to thank you for your support and all those who placed their trust in me. This campaign was never about me. It was always about Monterey Park.

Elections are tough. This race was no exception.

My work and dedication towards making Monterey Park safer and stronger didn’t start with this campaign – and it doesn’t end with it.

Tomorrow I will wake up and continue to fight for a thriving local economy, a safe city for our families and an honest city government. I ask you to join me.

You don’t need a title to make a difference in our city. In hard and honorable defeat, I am more proud than ever of what we have accomplished.

Thank you Monterey Park – let’s get to work.
Sincerely,
Randall Avila
